Resolved Question: Is it possible to run a wiki on the Yahoo servers using their basic web hosting solution?
I would like to set up a personal wiki to organize some of my thoghts and information. I am a subscriber to Yahoo's basic web hosting plan. This service does not include SSH access to the web servers. Instead, Yahoo mostly allows FTP access, mySQL setup, and limited PHP scripting. Some wiki's are supposed to be lightweight and easy to install, requiring only basic PHP/mySQL setup. Is it possible to run and manage one of these using Yahoo's basic web hosting solution, and if so, which one would you recommend?

Events include major and popular concerts, sporting events, lectures, art shows, etc. I plan to finance the project through Google Adsense and Affiliated Marketing. What is a good hosting company that would allow me, a beginner web designer, to build a great-looking website. I would like to have premade templates and stock photos I can use for free so every I have to do is write text, upload photos and videos, and provide libks. I have been using Bluehost.com, but they so many options on the CL panel, it is quite confusing. Resolved Question: Online Affiliate web site question?
Okay I have been checking out the Wealthy Affiliate (WA) site for a few weeks now and am contemplating joining. Is WA an information site only or can you earn money through it? I know that Click-Bank is a money generating website but I am confused about the structure. Do you have to buy the e-books or programs before you can try to sell them? I know you have to have resell rights and every but that can be really expensive if you have to buy them every. I know that WA offers free web hosting, but Click Bank wont let you use a free web hosting service to sell their products. You have to pay like 10 bucks a month for web hosting i think. Please help me better understand this!

Voting Question: How Can I Block a specific IP address (preferably MAC address too) from connecting to my computer (Vista OS)?
Before I can ask, I have to give a little background information : I am hosting a private gaming server from my home computer(Vista OS). I have opened ports and I run a matchserver that player's client's can connect to. As in every games, there are exploits, and when a player is caught abusing such exploits, his or her account is deleted. The problem is, these "exploiters" are able to simply able to create a new account by registering a new one. The register page is hosted off a wamp server, and directly edits the game database. The administrator console (what is used to ban "exploiters" as well as other in game functions) is on a sub directory of the registration page. I have implemented IP banning on the registration page, but any half wit can google up a proxy and bypass an IP ban. The IP and MAC address is recorded in the game database when the user connects. So here's what I am trying to do, But am unsure how. 1.) Block every TCP and UPD connections to my computer from Specific IP and MAC addresses. 2.) Add IP and MAC addresses to the "Blocked list" from a .php web panel that can lookup these addresses from a database. If anyone knows how to do this, it would be GREATLY appreciated if that person could tell me how. I am just trying to run a fun, fair, and secure gaming server. By the way, the name of the game is GunZ: The Duel. Probably doesn't help at every, but having too much information is better than not enough.

Voting Question: Visitor-Uploaded Galleries: How to Approach?
I need advice on how to approach a website objective. I recently completed a school trip in which many people took multiple photos throughout. I've got quite a bit of unused web-space that could be used to host galleries created by individuals from the class. How can I create a site where members from the class can create galleries and upload pictures to the site? What languages and/or tools are required to make it happen? Where can I find tutorials or other information to start the project? Is it possible that pre-made templates exist for the type of project I'm undertaking? Where could I find them? Ideally I'd like to be able to mail out the sites location, viewable by every, with a password protected upload procedure. I would like to prompt the user to enter their name that is used to list/identify a gallery of their photos, and give the option of uploading multiple files at one time. Once uploaded I would like the site to display a list of galleries on the front page, with individual pages listing thumbnails of the files contained in the gallery. Automating these procedures is always preferable, but depending on the trade-off between complexity and expediency I do not mind manually handling some of the work involved with posting content. The main emphasis is making the procedure easy enough that members of the class will be encouraged to submit their imagery to the mix. I'm looking for thoughts and advice from others as to how they would approach the project and to be pointed some information I need to know to start. The best answer would interpret the ideas described here, explain how they would approach things, and provide some links or information to search terms necessary to start. Thanks! =)

Resolved Question: I need help understand this short article, can u please help?
(Can you please let me know what are the main point of this article, I'm kinda confused. Thanks) My Overall Summary: This article is discusses mainly about the security of a national ID card. Because, the fear of terrorism that is why they arrive up with this type of identification card. The author is against this idea because he think by doing this the people have to give up some of their personal privacy which will be vulnerable to these people. ----> Can someone tell me how can this type of national ID card help America prevent from terrorism? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Threat of National ID By: WILLIAM SAFIRE Published: December 24, 2001 A device is now available to help pet owners find lost animals. It's a little chip implanted below the skin in the back of the neck; any animal shelter can quickly scan lost dogs or cats and pick up the address of the worried owner. That's a good side of identification technology. There's a bad side: fear of terrorism has placed Americans in danger of trading our ''right to be let alone'' for the untrue sense of security of a national identification card. every of us are willing to give up some of our personal privacy in return for greater safety. That's why we gladly suffer the pat-downs and ''wanding'' at airports, and show a local photo ID before boarding. Such precautions contribute to our peace of mind. However, the fear of terror attack is being exploited by law enforcement sweeping for suspects as well as by commercial marketers seeking prospects. It has emboldened the zealots of intrusion to press for the holy grail of snoopery -- a mandatory national ID. Police unconcerned with the sanctity of an individual's home have already developed heat sensors to let them look inside people's houses. The federal ''Carnivore'' surveillance system feeds on your meatiest e-mail. Think you can encrypt your way to privacy? The Justice Department is proud of its new ''Magic Lantern'': every attempts by computer owners to encode their messages can now be overwhelmed by an electronic bug the F.B.I. can plant on your keyboard to read every stroke. But in the dreams of Big Brother and his cousin, Big Marketing, nothing can compare to forcing every person in the United States -- below penalty of law -- to carry what the totalitarians used to call ''papers.'' The plastic card would not merely show a photograph, signature and address, as driver's licenses do. That's only the beginning. In time, and with exquisite refinements, the card would contain not only a fingerprint, description of DNA and the details of your eye's iris, but a host of other information about you. Hospitals would say: How about a chip providing a complete medical history in case of emergencies? Merchants would add a chip for credit rating, bank accounts and product preferences, while divorced spouses would lobby for a rundown of net assets and yearly expenditures. Politicians would like to know voting records and political affiliation. Cops, of course, would insist on a record of arrests, speeding tickets, E-Z pass car movements and links to suspicious Web sites and associates. every this information and more is being collected already. With a national ID system, however, it can every be centered in a single dossier, even pressed on a single card -- with a copy of that card in a national databank, supposedly confidential but available to any imaginative hacker. What about us libertarian misfits who take the trouble to try to ''opt out''? We will not be able to travel, or buy on credit, or participate in tomorrow's normal life. Soon enough, police as well as employers will consider those who resist full disclosure of their financial, academic, medical, religious, social and political affiliations to be suspect. The universal use and likely abuse of the national ID -- a discredit card -- will trigger questions like: When did you start subscribing to these publications and why were you visiting that spicy or seditious Web site? Why are you afraid to show us your papers on demand? Why are you paying cash? What do you have to hide? Today's diatribe will be scorned as alarmist by the same security-mongers who shrugged off our attorney general's attempt to abolish habeas corpus (which libertarian protests and the Bush administration's sober second thoughts seem to be aborting). But the lust to take advantage of the public's fear of terrorist penetration by penetrating everyone's private lives -- this time including the lives of U.S. citizens protected by the Fourth Amendment -- is gaining popularity. Beware: It is not just an efficient little card to speed you though lines faster or to buy you sure-flame protection from suicide bombers. A national ID card would be a ticket to the loss of much of your personal freedom. Its size could then be reduced for implantation below the skin in the back of (adding missing words from the last sentence in article:) Its size could then be reduced for implantation below the skin in the back of your neck.

Resolved Question: Done with ASTRONOMY HOMEWORK need someone to check behind me PLEASE!!!?
Chapter 5 Homework 1. Why was Pluto recently closer to the Sun than Neptune? •For most of its orbit, Pluto is more distant than Neptune, reaching out as far as 49 astronomical units (49 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun). But it has such an eccentric, elliptical orbit that it gets much closer, reaching a mere 29 AU. And during that time, it's actually orbiting within the orbit of Neptune. The last time Pluto and Neptune made this switch was between February 7, 1979 and February 11, 1999. And give it another couple of hundred years and it'll happen again 2. Why do astronomers believe that the solar nebula was rotating? •Rotation occurred because the formation of nebulae is turbulent, meaning that they are created with many slowly swirling regions, like so much smoke rising for a flame. 3. To test your understanding of the formation of the solar system, do Interactive Exercise 5-1 on the Web site. Explain what is happening in each figure. You can print out your results, if required. • 4. Describe four methods that exist for discovering extrasolar planets. •A) A planet and its star both orbit around their common middle of mass, always staying on opposite sides of that point. The planet’s motion around the middle of mass often provides astronomers with the information that a planet is gift. •B) As a planet moves toward or away from us, its star moves in the opposite direction. Using spectroscopy, we can measure the Doppler shift of the star’s spectrum, which reveals the effects of the unseen planet or planets. •C) If a star and its planet are oving across the sky, the motion of the planet causes the star to orbit its middle of mass. This motion appears as a wobbling of the star across the celestial sphere •D) If a planet happens to move in a plane that takes it across its star as seen from earth, then the planet will hide some of the starlight, causing the star to dim. This change in brightness will occur periodically and can revel the presence of a planet. 5. What two properties of a planet must be known in order for its average density to be determined? How are these properties determined? •Total mass and total volume. •Kepler's laws enable us to determine the mass of each planet from the periods of their moons' orbits. •The measured diameters of the planets (determined from their distance; from Earth and angular sizes in the sky) yield their volumes 6. How can Neptune have more mass than Uranus but a smaller diameter? Hint: look table 5-2 •It’s made up of different elements. 7. The Earth had formed around the of the first generation stars created in the universe? What chemical elements would the Earth then be composed of? Could we humans exist on that version of Earth? Why or why not? •Carbon, silocone, & Iron. Yes. We are carbon based life forms 9. The accretion process of planet formation was still going on? How would life in general on Earth be different and how might we be different? •Earth would be bombarded by other pieces of rock collecting together which would create a hostile environment. We would probably be subterranean. 10. The solar system passed through a cloud of gas and dust that was beginning to collapse to form a new star and planet system? What might happen to the Earth and how would the passage affect the appearance of the sky? •The Earth might heat up and the sky would turn the color of the nebula. 11. Search the Web for information about recent observations of protoplanetary disks. What insights about the formation of the solar system have astronomers gained from these observations? Explain the evidence astronomers have, from these observations, that planets are forming in these disks. •As accretion continues within a protoplanetary disk, sizable objects known as planetesimals form which, after several million years, give rise to tiny, rocky planets close to the host star. Further out, where it is icy enough for ice to form in the disk, more solid material is available for world-building. Gas giants, like Jupiter and Saturn, may start with cores of rock and ice of about 10 Earth-masses and then sweep up big quantities of light gases to form thick atmospheres. This should result in the creation of a central cavity within the circumstellar disk, similar in size to the solar system, and a drastic depletion of the disk's gas content. Recent observations, for example of the 10-million-year-old star HR 4796A, provide evidence for this view. 13. Search the Web for information about the planet orbiting the star HD 209458. This planet has been detected using two methods. What are they? What have astronomers learned about this planet? •By transit and Spectroscopic studies. •The atmosphere is at a pressure of one bar at an altitude of 1.29 Jupiter radii over the planet's middle •on November 27, 2001 the Hubble Space Telescope detected sodium, the first planetary at

Voting Question: Domain Transfer.. Server Problems?
i'm not too familiar with the technical language of web hosting, i basically took over a website with zero knowledge and am trying to learn it as i go. basically the people who created the site originally paid for the space and url (domain name?) from www.combohost.net which if you go check out has completely disappeared at this point and so has my website. (yes i realized that i got screwed by the previous owners) when i look up the domain at whois.sc this is the information that i receive http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v354/sanonomiko/webquestion.jpg is my fear correct that basically the people we paid to host are no longer around? i and some friends have tried to contact the company but with no luck. i've been trying to do some research and is my understand correct that since it says registrar status: clienttransferprohibited that i am not able to move the domain to a different server that can host my site? i don't know how who to contact to receive the necessary codes to do intitate a transfer if thats even possible at this point i'm really at a lost as to what to do. from what i can tell at the relax of the whois information combohost.net registered the domain name at http://domain.bebest.net (it is a thai based site) and i dont have any member login information at every. am i basically at a lost at this point since i cannot receive in contact with anyone? i would adore to keep the original domain name but if i must switch it as a last resort then i guess that is what i would have to do but i wanted to make sure that i covered every the basis if my domain name is .com and no one else has it registered can i keep the same domain name but make it .net instead? or there any restrictions on that?

Resolved Question: Getting a Domain Name?
From my previous question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhbDFSiqaWhW8KE1Qsl7SM3sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081021132115AAA6XEK I learned that I need two things: a domain name and a means of web hosting. Is there a way to receive a domain name without paying. I mean that I do not want to go through another service (like godaddy.com). I do not want to go through some scamming website either. I want to receive one completely independently but I want it to be registered just like the ones godaddy.com would supply me with. I wish you understand what I am asking. It is difficult for me to explain what I want to know. Again, every information that you know, I want to know.

Open Question: Frustration with web page uploading, newbie. PLEASE HELP!?
This is getting quite tiring and I might as well rip my hair out. I'm pretty sure that I'm making a bigger deal of this than it really is but I haven't uploaded a web page before. I already have made multiple pages using notepad but I can't seem to put them on the WWW. Here's the deal: As a basic start, I am only uploading my "tester" home page for now. Using FileZilla, I am logged in to my hosting server(hostultra). I have read that I need my home page as "index.html". What does this mean? Do I need to rename my home page as "index.html" for the browsers to read it correctly or what? I have also seen "public.html" directories. Does this go below the "index.html" directory? Please, I need to receive every the help I can. If you need any other information to give me advice, please ask. I thought web designing was the toughest part(minus java/flash) lol

Voting Question: Domain name - Australian .org.au... hidden costs/catches?
Hi every, I'm after information about if there are any hidden costs or catches when buying a domain name. I've been looking through the various registrars in Australia and the prices vary from around $10/yr to a heck of a lot more than that!! I'm getting a bit wary of what they offer for the money and also the renewal costs arrive renewal time. I am also not sure if some of them will give you that good price only if you buy web hosting/space from them as well or if perhaps I end up with them owning the domain name instead of our group. I don't want any nasty surprises arrive renewal time... The group I am setting this up for isn't exactly dripping cash so I want to keep it as cheap as possible but not find ourselves "up for an arm and a leg" somewhere during every of this or that we are locked into this registrar for the next however long or whatever. I'm planning on using free web hosting with a reputable company that meets our needs to avoid costs other than the actual domain name costs. So could people who know their way around Australian domain buying and potential hidden costs and catches give me some help here? Thanks!! P.S. Please don't anyone just say "GoDaddy" unless you can point me to info that clearly shows that they can and will do .org.au for a good price. As far as I know, GoDaddy can't provide .org.au and we can't use the .org that we would like.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password? Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname? Are you sure that the database server is running? For more help, look the Installation and upgrading handbook. Resolved Question: Google Adsense is No.1 "SCAM" website on Internet? Yes, No, Comment?
Read the following article and tell whether google adsense is No.1 SCAM or Just a Scam website on internet. There are number of affiliate programme websites on internet. Google adsense is one of them. Except Google adsense every the other affiliate websites approving blog or website immediately or within one day from the date of submitting the application. But google adsense take 1 to 2 days (2months back) Now 2 weeks, one month and Now at last 6 months. You look the difference in approving itself. 2. Other affiliate website approve with few seconds or just one day for good content. (Whether it is copied content from other websites or blogs or any other webpages or any other media is not an issue) But, in Google adsense lots of condition a. Your content must be a unique one, not copied from other websites, blogs or webpages or any other media. Why this partiality? You want your ads should be shown on big number of websites. That's every You cannot insist the publishers to do this thing, that thing and put more conditions on them. For your nice information, other affiliate websites are putting these over conditions at every. Google now cease approving blogspot, google will approve only websites hereafter. You have spent Rs.1000 atleast to host a website that too with excellent quality content. You have to upload new content once in a week. The person as to spent Rs.1000 before he getting google adsense approval. It is huge cheat from google adsense. Suppose, if his/her website not receive approval. Then Rs.1000 already spent for web-hosting is utter waste. Who will pay this amount? Whether google adsense will pay this web-hosting amount? Other website, even blog or free website webpage enough to receive approval. Policies of google not accepted one. You cannot post an ad in third party website to asking users to click your website google ads is utter cheat. How you can receive visitors for your website. If you not posting your blog or website on third-party website. How can you receive visitors to your website. If your website not producing sufficient clicks. Google disable your account. There is no such conditions in other affiliate programme. Google will pay only your account reaches 100 dollars, it is also utter cheat. Suppose a person earn 99 dollars and just a dollar to receive a cheque. His friends intentionally click every the ads at once on his website. His account disable on second day. He will not receive cheque for 99 dollars. every his effort are waste. This is huge drawbacks or huge cheat from google. Other website even 10 dollars they will pay the amount. 100 dollars is too much. Accoring to me 25 dollars is the minimum pay-out. Google pay only (for indians) one cent, two cent maximum 5 cents per click. When you will earn 100 dollars god only knows.... High-paying ads not display on smaller, unfamiliar websites or blogs. Because of these big number of adsense publishers not earning. Even after 6 months his account reaches only 20 dollars is utter shame for google adsense programme, but not for him. High paying ads and high paying keywords is another big cheat from google adsense programme. Why you(google) putting too many conditions. Your ad will display on our website and blogs. Actually we have put lots of conditions to google. You cannot have a rights to put us so many conditions. I will not join google adsense programme anymore.

Resolved Question: What are the chances of....?
Violence and profanity being eliminated from novels? Is there a trend toward cleaning up novels? Here's an article on mormontimes.com. By Aaron Shill Mormon Times Published: Monday, Sep. 15, 2008 It's no longer part of her job, but Cathy Carmode Lim still claims a good excuse for reading. Lim has been critiquing books professionally for more than a decade, and although she recently left her position as a book-page editor for an Alabama newspaper, she continues to devote energy to reading and reviewing. "I just can't help myself," Lim said. But it's not for entertainment purposes only. Lim has an objective in mind each time she updates her personal Web site -- keeping other reading enthusiasts apprised of what they'll encounter when they pick up a recently published book. "It's such a grab bag," she said. "There's just so much out there." Lim has become accustomed to recommending books. She began writing reviews after the birth of her first child, and for two years she worked as the editor of the Anniston Star's Sunday book page. Friends and associates constantly asked for her opinions on what she was reading, features continue below advertisement "I have this wonderful opportunity," she said. "I might as well put it out there so more people can receive that." In January, Lim launched ratedreads.com, which she says is dedicated "to the readers who don't like excessive vulgar language, violence or explicit sex in their otherwise good books." She designed a rating system that evaluates the amount of potentially offensive content in books, which are categorized as either "none," "mild," "moderate" or "off my charts." Lim provides a synopsis and review for each book, in addition to a few sentences that specify why the book received the rating it did. "They'll know exactly what they're getting into," she said. Lim, who is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said many books contain one or two instances of offensive material, similar to a PG-13 movie. But unlike films, there's no rating system in place for readers to consult. "It's impossible to know if that's the case with a book," she said. Lim's recent reviews include Stephenie Meyer's "The Host," which received a "mild" rating, and Poppy Adams' "The Sister," which was categorized as "moderate." Just this year, Lim listed six books as "off my charts," meaning that she can't recommend the book as "clean." The former Brigham Young University student and returned LDS missionary focuses her efforts on recently published books, where there is the greatest dearth of information, she said. Lim tries to select works that she suspects will meet her standards, and she's learned a few lessons along the way. For instance, she avoids any stories labeled as "coming of age," and just because a book is categorized as "young adult," it's not automatically a safe read. Lim does most of the work herself, but is hoping to enlist more help from book enthusiasts who want to contribute reviews. Ratedreads.com also links to other sites that provide "clean" book reviews, and Lim is hoping to implement more interactive features in the future. While she thinks book editors in New York have an entirely different perspective, Lim is confident that most people are looking for relatively clean material to read. While in Alabama, she participated in a book club where she was the only Mormon, but found common ground when it came to standards. "They didn't want to pick up something that was really offensive," she said. "I don't want to pick up a book and just be pummeled with bad language and detailed sexual scenes. A lot of Americans feel the same way." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E-mail: ashill@desnews.com

Voting Question: Web Application development help!?
Here is a problem: Server runs ISS. Client via internet opens a web page that hosted on server, pushes a button on web page and web application scans some information from registry (on client's pc), then server analyzes this information and sends specific files back to a client and after receiving this files, application starts installing these files. I need general understanding how can I achive it. As i can look, if i develop a web application and register it on IIS, whatever client pushes on the web page it still executes on Server (reads registry, file operations, etc). If i receive it right, there will be 2 portions for this project like client/server application and if client visits the webpage after pushing a button on his browser window, additional Cab file (or whatever) is going to be downloaded and executed on his PC (something like Microsoft Windows Updates). So if anyone can suggest me if i'm going in the right direction or if there is an easier approach fro this. Thanks.

Voting Question: What's the difference between Yahoo Web Hosting & Microsoft's OfficeLive?
I have a Yahoo! site that I really adore. It's easy to work with. I need to receive a site and domain for a group of people. Somebody said Microsoft OfficeLive is free. What's the difference? I've seen some sites that say the name of the domain and then .officelive.com after it. What else? Why spend the $11.95 a month vs. nothing? There has to be an answer. I'd rather work with Yahoo because I'm familiar with it ... but I need good information to take back to the group. Thank you!
